Infant Room Teacher

Full-Time / Part-Time

We are seeking a warm and attentive Infant Room Teacher to care for babies ages 3 to 12 months. You will lead daily feeding, diapering, safe sleep, and responsive play while partnering closely with families through each milestone. Infant care is the most regulated classroom in our center, so attention to DCYF safety and documentation standards is essential.

Credentials & Background:

  • High school diploma or GED (college credit counts as equivalent)
  • 18 years of age or older
  • 6+ months of experience with infants in a licensed center (preferred)
  • Pediatric First Aid and Infant/Child CPR/AED with hands-on component (online-only not accepted)
  • Safe Sleep training completed before working unsupervised with infants
  • DCYF Child Care Basics (CCB) completed or enrolled within 90 days of hire
  • HIV/Bloodborne Pathogens training and Food Worker Card
  • Negative TB test on file
  • STARS ID and active MERIT Workforce Registry account
  • DCYF portable background check cleared through MERIT
  • Meets DCYF Center Lead Teacher qualifications per WAC 110-300-0100, or placed on a Professional Development Plan toward the ECE Initial Certificate within 5 years

Key Responsibilities:

  • Follow DCYF Safe Sleep protocols (WAC 110-300-0290/0291) — back-to-sleep positioning, one infant per crib, no loose items, visual checks on required intervals
  • Bottle feeding per WAC standards — hold infants during every feeding, proper labeling with name and date, breast milk handling and storage protocols
  • Introduce solid foods only per each family's written food plan and developmental readiness; no juice or sweetened beverages under 12 months
  • DCYF diapering and hygiene procedures (WAC 110-300-0221) — check every 2 hours, hand washing before and after, surface sanitization after every change
  • Active line-of-sight and line-of-hearing supervision at all times; baby monitors do not substitute for direct supervision (WAC 110-300-0345)
  • Daily tummy time while awake and supervised
  • Complete an Individual Care Plan with each family (WAC 110-300-0300) and follow it consistently
  • Daily reports to families through Lillio/HiMama covering feedings, diapers, naps, mood, and activities
  • Implement the Creative Curriculum for Infants, Toddlers & Twos

Physical & Work Requirements:

  • Lift and hold infants up to 30 lbs throughout the day
  • Sit on the floor, kneel, squat, and bend over cribs and changing tables repeatedly
  • Hear a quiet cry or breathing change across the room
  • Respond quickly to an infant at risk (choking, fall, allergic reaction)
